THE 10TH AVATAR AWAKENS: A GLIMPSE INTO KALKI’S 2898 AD

The eager wait of the audience is about to be excused since the mark of the project k is coming near and it is only a few days until the highly anticipated sci-fi movie KALKI 2898 AD is set to be released all over India. Directed by Nag Ashwin the movie boasts about its rather different approach if we try to look back into the Hindu mythology. Director Ashwin had hinted towards the story being referred to the Hindu god “ Vishnu” in his tenth Avatar Kalki although the details of it are well secured until the release.

According to Hindu mythology “Kalki” appears at the end of “Kalyuga” in order to maintain peace, and marks the end of all the darkest, degenerating and chaotic stages of the “kalyuga” until he restarts the new cycle of time – the “Satya Yuga”.

Project K is speculated to be set in a post-apocalyptic world maybe in the year 2898 as the title suggests and would show a futuristic world in accordance to the Hindu mythology. The idea of a futuristic world excites us as an audience which is something we’ve rarely experienced visually before in the Indian movie market. Moreover, the intertwined ideas of a futuristic world with mythological stories are somewhat captivating in the minds of the viewers and it is yet to see how the makers achieve it.

The upcoming movie has grabbed headlines not only because of its striking cast and futuristic setting but also with its new approach of introducing each Unique character. It is rather a very creative initiative to showcase the massive cast starring Prabhas as the titular character alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and many more. Up until now, we’ve been officially introduced to a few characters such as “ “Ashwatthama”, and “Bhairava” along with the speculated characters such as “Kali”. However, what seemed to capture the attention of the viewers was

when the makers introduced “Ashwatthama” starring Amitabh Bachchan who indeed did a splendid job so much so that the scenes from the dedicated introduction teaser gave us goosebumps.

Regarding the introduction of the character “Ashwatthama” people are starting to connect the dots about its link with the Mahabharata, they’re wondering if it is just a character in the movie or has great connections to the mythological character “Ashwatthama” the son of “Dronacharya” in the Epic Mahabharata who was cursed by Lord Krishna for his attempt to kill Uttara’s unborn Baby. The reference seems too strong since we get to see a divine gem in the sneak peeks which was also a part of “Ashwatthama” in the mythological stories.

Two days back yet another character was introduced as “ Bujji” which is something like a mini upbeat AI Robotic car seen to assist Prabhas’s character. Nag Ashwini and the makers published 4 specific episodes in their “From Scratch Project K” revealing the making of a wheel in the first episode to the making of “Bujji” both of which are interlinked as we see in the “Bujji” teaser’s an AI futuristic car. One interesting fact that comes up while talking about “ Bujji” is that the producers made a replica of the same thing with the help from the homegrown manufacturers Mahindra and Jayem Automotive to build this futuristic car that we see in the teaser for the movie promotion and used it in a recent event to promote the same where we see Prabhas making a grand entry riding the same car which is actually quite interesting and intriguing.

Nonetheless, the audience awaits and while waiting they’re grooming so many theories about the movie which are roaming all through the web such as

”Who’ll be the Kalki?” Is a question in everyone’s mind followed by

“Big B aka Amitabh Bachchan playing Ashwatthama awakes as a robot in the movie”

“Kamal Haasan who is about to play Kali is an evil ruler who tries to set his rule as a king”

And what not but all we can do is eagerly wait till the movie premieres and go on a whimsical ride where myths, history, and imagination intertwine and uplift each other in times.
