Reborn India Film Screens “Dug Dug,” A Satirical Take on Modernity

The Reborn India Film Festival hosted a special screening of “Dug Dug,” directed by Ritwik Pareek, on May 14th, 2024, at Cinepolis Andheri West. The film, presented by Anurag Kashyap with marketing and distribution by Ranjan Singh and produced by Bottle Rocket Pictures, is inspired by true events.

“Dug Dug” had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2021 and is part of the Reborn India Films “Round-The-Clock” vertical. Festival Director Rahul Agarwal and curated by Rohit Agarwal & Abhra Das, the festival champions innovation, diversity, and the pursuit of the extraordinary in film, aiming to redefine cinema and support future filmmakers.

The screening drew industry professionals and influencers, creating an evening filled with anticipation. After the film, attendees shared their thoughts.

Deepak Dogriyal praised the film’s symbolism, particularly the recurring balloon motif, which he felt represented the ever-inflating nature of rumours and societal trends. He concluded by calling it “a lovely film, a very symbolic one…a great experience.”

Varun Grover lauded the film’s unique blend of bizarre humour and social satire. He emphasized its importance for the current generation, highlighting its portrayal of “the weird reality of the world.” Grover also commended the film’s stunning cinematography, trippy soundtrack, exceptional performances (especially from non-professional actors), and title design.

Thrilled by the overwhelming response, director Ritwik Pareek expressed his appreciation: “The show was absolutely packed! I was so grateful that everyone stayed until the end. It was a fantastic opportunity, and I want to thank the Reborn India Film Festival for screening the film. The timing couldn’t have been better, as we’re about to release it soon. Thank you so much for everything!” Pareek’s enthusiasm underscores the significance of such screenings for independent filmmakers. These events offer a valuable platform to showcase their work, garner recognition, and build anticipation ahead of the official release.

Fueled by the enthusiastic response from industry veterans like Deepak Dogriyal and Varun Grover, who lauded the film’s symbolism, humour, and social commentary, director Ritwik Pareek is brimming with excitement.  This packed screening at the Reborn India Film Festival served as the perfect launchpad for ‘Dug Dug’s’ upcoming release, generating buzz and critical acclaim that will undoubtedly bolster its journey into the Indian cinematic landscape.
