OMG 2 (2023) is a bold sequel of Oh My God! Which came out in the year 2012. Directed by Amit Rai, it offers a lens to navigate into sensitive topics which aren’t dealt with much in adulthood – sex education, taboos and moral codes in the “liberal” and “diversified” contemporary setup of India. The film stars Pankaj Tripathi as an extremely religious and respectable man – Kanti, whose son Vivek has been rusticated from a very prestigious school due to his “immoral” conduct. Vivek faces severe criticism and backlash but no one raises a question to the boys who filmed the video without his consent. The story is about how a father points a finger towards the education system that sees “sex” as something that cannot be talked about in the open. Here, Akshay Kumar plays the messenger of God – or God himself who helps Kanti face his fiercest opponent – Kamini Maheshwari (Yami Gautam), who is defending her father in law because the school belongs to him. What makes this film worth watching is that it talks about issues that are important to be addressed in today’s world – without being preachy. The screenplay mixes impactful dialogues with that of humor to portray the outdated misconceptions that people still bear around sex and manhood. It is a must – watch for people around all ages because most of what is discussed in the film is still shushed about and people need to know more about the wonderful functions of a human body.
