Netflix is here with its first YA series from Japan – Chastity High

What is “love”? And at which point it becomes a sin to fall in love? Japan is among the most talked about countries among the Genz community. Today’s youth is curious, stunned and fascinated by the Japanese culture and language mostly because of the rise of Anime and manga which takes them to explore the country and everything about it more! But where this hard-working country with a soft culture and pretty aesthetics turns into a conservative box is mostly unknown!

“Chastity High”, the first YA series from Japan is coming on Netflix on 29th August 2024 explores the concept of High school love among the Genz community. The series will delve into the strict rules and restrictions set out for students to prevent them from any romantic environment, and they’re strictly forbidden to allow love and romance in their lives even outside of the school campus. The story is allegedly based on a real-life incident.

The trailer reveals Arusan Academy and its new “No Student Romance “ rule. The rule only gets more strict when the principal appoints Spy students to expose others who break the rule. In such tension comes our “Love Keeper”, a school girl played by Mikami Ai, who makes it a business to help the love birds around the school whose pictures are exposed and roam on the web. The plot further thickens and gets more complicated when a boy enters the life of Love Keeper as a business partner in crime.

The series will likely untie the Genz perspective on love and romance and the consequences that follow it. It’ll likely establish the importance of free will and the burden of school pressure followed by the expectations to live up to other’s desires and dreams. Attracting young audiences this series is very likely to give the audience a relatable perspective to a very common issue that is never voiced.
