Maddock Films announced their latest movie “Munjya” and released the trailer only recently. The film is yet another patchwork of horror and humour mixed together by the production house after giving back-to-back hits like “Stree”, and “Bhediya”, with “Stree 2” and “Bhediya 2” also on the horizon.
Prepare to be seated for you’re about to leap into a captivating world where urban legends meet mystery and comedy in complete harmony. In the hands of the director Aditya Sarpotdar, this movie features the story of the urban legends which says young boys who have met an ultimate Demise before reaching the age of 15 come back as a Spector in the form of “Munjya”. Among them was a boy whose unwavering wish was to marry some
“Munni” thus comes back after death to fulfil his desires, with Abhay Verma, Mona Singh, and Sharvari Wagh as lead characters.
Maddock Films has always been experimental In its horror-comedy universe, trying to mature gracefully like fine wine with each passing day. Indian audiences not having been able to witness much in this genre are eagerly anticipating something exceptional. Their previous work “Stree” is a Cinematic gem that too weaves an ancient folklore in present settings where a vengeful female ghost hunts for men as its prey after sunset. The movie had a very grounded approach and tops the genre with great efficiency. Without a doubt, it is to date one of the most brilliant horror comedies in Bollywood followed by “Bhediya” by the same production house, though not a superhit like its predecessor “ Stree “ this movie still managed to catch the attention of the audience through its brilliant storytelling and well-
placed humour. We can undoubtedly say it is a well-made horror movie with comic elements to suit the genre although the story was a bit simple and predictable, which is understandable since it is still very much of an experimental genre in Indian cinemas specially in Bollywood- the elements of horror, thrill and comedy are somewhat opposite concepts to combine in an original script with proper efficiency is a challenge on itself.
Previous Bollywood attempts at horror comedy often leaned towards South remakes rather than an original concept such as “Bhool Bhulaiya”. Although not an original concept the movie had a much more realistic approach and was an incredible remake of the “Chandramukhi”. However Maddock’s films dare to innovate original scripts pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in this experimental genre, and even combining different cinematic universes together as we see
in the end credits of “ Bhediya” where Varun Dhawan as Bhaskar finally meets Vicky (Rajkumar Rao) from Stree.
Nonetheless, fans are eagerly waiting for their upcoming project “Munjya” and people hope that the film will meet their expectations Further ahead and will not disappoint like it had when “Roohi” was released. “But could it be another cinematic universe that the makers are trying to combine altogether??” A question in the minds of the audience whose answer lies ahead until the release of the movie”
